Eleni Kyratzopoulou received her B.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from the Democritus University of Thrace (2008) and her M.Sc. in Biochemistry from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2010).
Her research interests focus on microalgal biotechnology, particularly the cultivation and monitoring of microalgae such as Chlorella vulgaris and Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis, as well as their applications in wastewater treatment, heavy metal removal, and the production of bioactive compounds, including phycocyanin.
Since 2024, she has been a Research Associate at the Athena Research Center in Xanthi, participating in the ALGEBRA (Green Fund) and ARCHIMEDES projects. Her work includes the development of aeration systems for microalgal cultivation and the application of spectroscopic and computational tools, including Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy and Artificial Intelligence (AI), for monitoring microalgal growth.
Her research activities include microalgal cultivation, culture monitoring, and the design and implementation of experiments for heavy metal removal in both single-metal and multi-metal systems. She has also contributed to the development of microalgal image databases and to studies on microalgal growth under laboratory and pilot-scale conditions.
Previously, she worked at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute in the field of molecular biology and immunobiotechnology and at the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” during her postgraduate studies, where she gained experience in molecular and biochemical techniques.
She is co-author of publications in international scientific journals in the fields of microalgal biotechnology, environmental remediation, spectroscopy, and Artificial Intelligence applications in biological systems.
